Contract Followers
Product Area: Home page, Contract Repository
Impact of the Change: New Feature
Roles Impacted: All users
Description:
The homepage contract widget just got a lot more useful. Previously, the widget showed "Contracts owned by [You]" - which meant anyone who wasn't a contract creator (approvers, signatories, reviewers, collaborators) saw an empty widget. More than half of our users fell into this bucket. The widget was essentially invisible to them.
We've replaced ownership-based filtering with a Followers system. You become a follower of a contract automatically when you have any meaningful interaction with it — creating it, getting assigned, approving, signing, commenting, or being mentioned. Followed contracts now populate your homepage widget, making it relevant for every user type.
What's changing:
- Home page contract widget will start showing contract you follow (instead NOT show the contracts owned by you, i.e. where you are the business user)
- User dropdown and time filter removed — relevance drives what you see, not filters
- "Contracts You're Following" system view added to the Repository for full search, filter, and sort access
What's NOT changing:
Followers of a contract will NOT receive any extra notifications. They'll only receive the relevant notifications that they used to receive earlier.
How you become a follower:
- Users are automatically added as follower when they: create a contract, get assigned (as BU, reviewer, approver, or signatory), comment, get mentioned, edit content, send for review or signature, or respond via email.
- Users can also manually start following any contract they have access to.
How to un-following:
From the contract details page, users can manually opt out. You stop following a contract if access is revoked or the user is deactivated.
